Nature Human
The leaves on my neighbors maple tree
are still green in late November. They cling
to the branches, a child clutching Mother’s skirt.
Determined to decide the time of their own demise,
they curl themselves toward the sky seeking sunlight
and star shine, studiously avoiding the fall to earth.

I like the image of the leaves clinging like children to a mother’s skirt.

Thanks, Merril. We’ve had very few cool days so far and many trees still have their leaves. They must be so confused. š

It got cold here finally, although it was actually nice enough to sit outside yesterday.
