Broken Eggs

Little girl is
focused on not disturbing 
the eggshells 
on the floor or
straying outside the lines 

slippery yolks scramble
her balance
one day a smothering 
then a smattering
then a smothering again

Yet she watches a dawn 
breaking new magic every day 
sees a clean chance every day
for eggs that are fresh
and whole
