Something Small, Every Day (or so): In the Moment I Realize

In the Moment I Realize

Words, like colors, swirl within
the heart and gut, through
the bloodstream, into the fingers
Your vacant chair is blue

fading to violet then to grey until,
at last, it is colorless
But all around me
bare winter branches burst

into flower,
the Japanese Magnolia reaches
its tender pink blooms to the sky
Light is always within reach

This bitty Eckphrastic thing was inspired by the artwork above as seen on the Women’s Art account on X. (@womensart1) I’ve followed Women’s Art there for many years and recommend it.

My “Something Small, Every Day (or so)” series is inspired by Austin Kleon’s piece here where he says, “Building a body of work (or a life) is all about the slow accumulation of a day’s worth of effort over time.”
