Something Small, Every Day (or so): Out of the Box

Out of the Box

Frog and Robin nestled
in a neighborhood
convenience store
frequently brown-bagged
food and smoked
joints in the parking lot
adventurous
exceeding all odds

Erasure poem created from the nonfiction piece, “Is This Home?” by Sam Stephenson in Oxford American, Winter 2020. I decided to go whimsical to balance out my last rather heavy poem. Balance is important, I think.

My “Something Small, Every Day (or so)” series is inspired by Austin Kleon’s piece here where he says, “Building a body of work (or a life) is all about the slow accumulation of a day’s worth of effort over time.”
