NaPoWriMo & Something Small, Every Day: Roses & Bones

Roses & Bones

My gut said you were nonsense in your Porsche 911
and your place in Park Slope, cruising with sharks
in butterflies clothes

I’m a grown ass woman and I don’t follow no crowd
I ain’t had a temper tantrum since I pushed
my first bully down

I ain’t so pathetic as to key it in shadow
or mark it red with words
I will drown it in blood
in ways that won’t be blurred

You won’t see it coming but
you’ll know that it was me
when roses & bones
are the last things you see

The day 5 prompt from NaPoWriMo was a fun one for me. I’m feeling contrary and rebellious resulting in this bit of fluff. We were prompted to choose from three columns: a notation, a musical genre, and one or more words. I chose “with contempt for imported convertible sports cars”, outlaw country classic, and the words nonsense, sharks, butterflies, shadow, roses, bones.

My “Something Small, Every Day (or so)” series is inspired by Austin Kleon’s piece here where he says, “Building a body of work (or a life) is all about the slow accumulation of a day’s worth of effort over time.”
