Hollywood
After shedding
the skin of another
the wine bottle winks
from the fridge, garnet liquid
slides down a throat where
words written by others
clog their own.
Adulation and awards
are determined by cliques
and closed parameters,
deviation from a set ideology
is cancellable.
Pretty faces bow, keep
their opinions in line
with the establishment.
Go home and drink it all away.
Napowrimo.org prompt for today: Today, we challenge you to write a poem in which a profession or vocation is described differently than it typically is considered to be.
My poem is on the cynical side today but I call it as I see it, generally speaking.

Oh, yes, Charlotte. They’re in a league of their own. Excellent write.

Thank you! Im afraid I’ve lost my taste for Hollywood in the past few years. Too much politics, not enough entertainment that’s watchable. JMO.

Undoubtedly. They certainly take advantage of their unique world wide stage.

I don’t mind them using their platforms. I just don’t know why our culture elevates all of them (and it) so much.

Gina, I didn’t remember that you read this blog!
I do mind that they use their platform for politics and what comes off as cultural lecturing. Famous actors & musicians are in a unique position with world-wide audiences. They’re entitled to their opinions, yes, but they have a lot of influence on people who don’t keep up with world events. And, lately, it feels like some of them have forgotten the many fans who made them billionaires & use their fame to condescend to/about them. It’s definitely making me rethink whose work I’ll support which feeds into the widening divide in our country and others. It very, very sad.
