A Tropical Fever

A Tropical Fever

On the island night
was a wall of flame
ascended, receded, opened,
disappeared again.
He was feverish,
vague, unsettled —
preparation was almost
execution.
Pleasure bound, all was ready,
minutes doubled into desire
more poetical in the obscurity
of the night.
Thoughts, illusions, anticipation,
the island loomed large.
He could not close his eyes
for a moment.

Na/GloPoWriMo day 5.
This is an erasure created from The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas via Project Gutenberg. See screenshot below of the selected page. I’ve been watching th PBS production so it seemed a good idea to use a page from the text.

Happy Easter! Happy Passover!

    1. It’s so, so good! I’m one episode behind which I plan to watch today. I’m DVRing the episodes. I remember another PBS production of this tale years ago, maybe the 70s or 80s, and I think it starred Richard Chamberlain. It was good, too.
You should try erasure – it’s like doing a puzzle.
