Something Small, Every Day (or so): Dynamics

Dynamics

The spiderwort is long gone
and was even before you
But I think of it often

The radiance of its blue
so intense it seemed it might blast
into the sky

a dynamic botanical rocket as you
were a dynamic human being
Both of you long gone from the earth

but no doubt still
blasting your radiance
through the heavens

My mother and I both loved Spiderwort and both had it in our gardens. It grew in a clump in the yard of my childhood home and mamma dug it up when my parents moved to a new place. Mine was a pass along plant from her and I had it in my yard for years until a freeze got it one year. One of these days I hope to have it in my garden again.

My “Something Small, Every Day (or so)” series is inspired by Austin Kleon’s piece here where he says, “Building a body of work (or a life) is all about the slow accumulation of a day’s worth of effort over time.”
