I Will Not Be Misunderstood

No labels, no pigeonholes, no cog in a wheel
no number in a government database,
no desk in a cube farm, no cc: in an email,
no lemming falling over a cliff, no sheep in a flock,
not another face in a crowd –
But a woman in whole, in control, plotting her course,
with dreams only she can realize, hopes only she can burst.

7/30 – Prompt via @DarkLinePoetry in my Twitter feed, as seen above. I’m not sure how I feel about this Anne Sexton poem. My poem is a instinctual response. Something to think about. I’m a bit behind in NaPoWriMo but I hope to catch up.
