Pass through
the skin of the chrysalis,
emerge pumped
into Earth,
a mythological creature
with a body blooded
on sunlight,
a body called more,
and wings
perched perpendicular
from bathing
in more heat
than color.

Napowrimo Day 24 prompt: “write a poem that, like “Dictionary Illustrations,” is inspired by a reference book.”
My poem in a “found” poem from the book “Gardening for Butterflies in Louisiana” by Gary Noel Ross, Ph.D. that I’m currently perusing for information to attract butterflies to my garden. I had a pretty fair number last summer but I’m determined to increase my numbers this year. My poem came from page 4.
I like it! What a great way to find a poem. Good prompt.

I love bees, too but I don’t see many in my garden. I think I’ll research flowers for bees, too. Thanks for the nudge!

Love it when butterflies visit. We haven’t had a garden up here in the Mountains, but we do see them when we hike through the wildflowers in the National Park ❤️
