You’ve been gone so long I couldn’t imagine you could still do harm. Every time I look around you’re shedding your skin, and I feel claws pressing in, opaque scales falling like snow, blocking the door. *** Image via Flickr Continue reading Cast Away
I love cooking shows and in the past week or so I’ve seen two touting the foodie virtues of egg in the hole. The Pioneer Woman and Bobby Flay both served up mouth-watering variations on this (apparently) breakfast staple. I’ve never eaten egg in the hole so I decided today I needed to correct that deficit in my culinary experience. Plus, I was hungry and I thought what could be better than fried egg and bread? I made the basic version – just egg and bread and butter – oh, my! I’d recently baked two loaves of homemade bread so I used … Continue reading In Praise of Egg in the Hole
I took this photo yesterday for the Photoblog 365 project I’m involved in on Instagram. The subject was “affection”. Sammy is probably the most affectionate dog I’ve ever had. He’s always by my side and is liberal with little doggie kisses. He’s a vocal protector of his mamma and his territory. Sometimes the barking gets on my last nerve but how can I chastise a face like that? I’m chahanola on Instagram. Continue reading Friday Pet Blogging: Sammy Big Eyes
My poem “Fractured Journey” is published in the Winter Quarterly of Blue Five Notebook/Blue Fifth Review. I’m so happy to join the talented writers in this wonderful edition. Big thanks to editors Sam Rasnake and Bill Yarrow who are outstanding poets themselves and have been so generous to me with their encouragement and advice over the years. In December my poem “2 Worlds” was published in Beate Sigridddaughters wonderful journal, Writing in a Woman’s Voice. I have great respect for Beate and the tireless work she does promoting women’s writing. I’ll never forget the surprise and elation I felt when she … Continue reading Publications: Blue Fifth Review & Writing in a Woman’s Voice
I’ve had a few blogs in my day and there’s always come a time when the current one has outlived its usefulness. For the past few months I’ve felt the creative mojo of this one slowly fading so I’ll be closing it down shortly. I want to say thanks to everyone who’s visited and commented here over the years. It’s been a real pleasure and know that I’ll continue to visit your blogs so you won’t see the definitive end of me quite yet. Plus, I’m sure I’ll open a new one at some point. I wish you all a … Continue reading Mojo left the room
I LOVE this tweet by Kelli Agodon, writer and co-founder of Two Sylvias Press who has a great twitter feed. Just had to share. Anyone who writes poetry has had a version of this wonderment in their head at one time or another. But, thing is, if you’re born to write poetry your really don’t have a choice. I wrote when I was very young then didn’t for years and years, only coming back to it in my mid-30’s but it was always in my head. Fragments, bits and pieces, phrases….it was always in there because it’s just how I … Continue reading Women Online: Great Reads You Shouldn’t Miss
in times of stress or anger, when others condemn your silence or your shout. Remember your own shining soul, do not succumb to misunderstanding or ill informed hate. Think for yourself, consider all voices. Walk outside the herd falling over the cliff. Remember who you are. Continue reading Remember Who You Are
