I woke up this morning thinking about repetition and how it can be a form of mindful meditation. Every morning I have the same routine. I go downstairs, take the dogs out into the backyard, flush out the fountain with fresh water and fill the cats water bowls. If it’s been dry I water the potted plants in the yard and the patio. I go inside, make coffee, feed the dogs, feed the cats, then sit down and read and/or write while I drink my coffee. I often turn the radio on to WWOZ and listen to their morning jazz … Continue reading Morning Meditation 12/7/14
Often we don’t notice happiness, Ordinariness makes it hard to embrace. Pay attention, connect with the moment. Quality is found in everything. ———————————— This bit of thought was inspired by the following text by Pema Chodron: WE can learn to rejoice in even the smallest blessings our life holds. It is easy to miss our own good fortune; often happiness comes in ways we don’t even notice. It’s like a cartoon I saw of an astonished-looking man saying, “What was that?” The caption below read, “Bob experiences a moment of well-being.” The ordinariness of our good fortune can make it … Continue reading Morning Meditation 12/6/14

The damp air clings to my skin while I watch little birds chirp and flutter, snacking at the feeder. Sunlight burns off the fog and the dampness disappears into clear blue autumn skies. Continue reading Morning Meditation 12/2/14
A conflicted alchemy, fragments of instinct was all they had, in hindsight. A delineation painstakingly constructed, an impulsive quickness, a capricious clarity. A story oddly radiant. Continue reading Clearly Clouded
I am crazy-happy to be a part of Literary Orphans new issue, “Houdini”. The Editor, Mike Joyce, and his staff put out a unique zine full of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, art, and interviews. It’s obvious by the visual beauty of the zine and the top notch talent that they work very hard to give their readers a stimulating and exceptional reading/viewing experience. Each issue has a theme and each contributor’s work is complimented by original artwork which, in my opinion, brings an added dimension to the words on the page. This is my second time to be a part of … Continue reading “Houdini” is live!
Your bottomless heart has enough space to make willingness your constant companion, to feel fear without shutting down, to show tenderness in time of trouble. Don’t let life shrink it. —————- Image by Lilian Auduong on Google+ Continue reading Morning Meditation 11/17/14
One time I bought a fake rock – somewhere, I don’t remember where – that had “Dream” cut into it. At that particular moment in time I couldn’t not buy it just because it was a fake rock. “Dream” is probably my favorite word because dreams are so ripe with possibility and anyone can dream, in any circumstance. I bought the rock and put it under my magnolia tree in the backyard between two roots growing on top of the ground. Every time I walked by the tree I looked down and the rock was there, reminding me to dream. … Continue reading Dream
“There exists the widespread communal belief that whatever “the Problem” is, it definitely begins when a person sees something.” Excerpt From: “Bird Box” by Josh Malerman My weekly contribution to David Abrams’ “Sunday Sentence” project in which participants share the best sentence read during the past week “out of context and without commentary.” Continue reading Sunday Sentence
