My eyes are dry now
Still, my heart flows river-like
To a sea of tears

Napowrimo Day 18 prompt: “Today, I’d like to challenge you to write an elegy of your own, one in which the abstraction of sadness is communicated not through abstract words, but physical detail. This may not be a “fun” prompt, but loss is one of the most universal and human experiences, and some of the world’s most moving art is an effort to understand and deal with it.”
It seems I’m getting later ever day with my poems! The website has already posted day 19’s prompt and I just wrote Day 18’s. Well, it’s still Thursday in New Orleans so I’m making it just under the wire. This isn’t exactly an elegy but it’s what came about.
You know, “my eyes are dry now” actually says everything for me! So powerful- one is left wondering and feeling…

rough year for writing all around (has been for me and for a friend I write with – we’re both struggling). The other day I couldn’t even get a haiku. You know it’s bad then! Yours is lovely.

I think the haiku form is perfect for the distillation of sorrow. The layers are endless. (K)
