5 Catagories of 5 Things That Rocked My 2014

Inspired by The Tavern Lantern’s “Year End Top Ten” feature, which I’ve been enjoying very much, I decided to make my own Top Five Lists. Consisting of five instead of ten items because I’m into shorter, smaller, more minimal. And I think some list posts are too long. (Not counting TL’s.) So, here we go. 5 Lit Journals and/or Zines I Read Regularly in 2014 Literary Orphans Connotation Press Blue Fifth Review: Blue Five Notebook Series Whiskey Paper Luna Luna 5 Blogs I Read Regularly in 2014 Roxane Gay’s Blog (Although, lately there’s less blogging and more linkage to her … Continue reading 5 Catagories of 5 Things That Rocked My 2014

Hot Reads

Hot Reads is a feature I published on my now defunct group blog, NOLAFemmes. I’ve decided to continue it here, from time to time, focusing mainly on the great fiction, flash fiction and poetry I read around the web. I love to share good writing! First, here’s a little something-something  I recently wrote: Unwitnessed Intimate flaws abandoned in darkness feed the hungry impulse for feeling less than loved. A strange bed sets a fluid stage, transposing in reflected light, sifting like sand through numbed fingers. ———————– “Unwitnessed” is currently up at Fictionaut where it’s joined by a gaggle of … Continue reading Hot Reads

Glass Woman Prize: Supporting Women’s Writing

Well, National Poetry Month is over and I’m pleased with myself for writing as much poetry as I did. I posted new poems 22 out of 30 days which is the best I’ve done for NaPoWriMo, ever. Last year I didn’t even attempt it so I feel good about this year’s effort. Not that I think all the poems were good ones, but the exercise made me stretch, made me write when I didn’t feel inspired on my own, made me think hard. I had to look for something to inspire, something I don’t do on a regular basis. The … Continue reading Glass Woman Prize: Supporting Women’s Writing

Writing For Writing’s Sake

Below is an excerpt from an interview with Literary Orphan’s editor, Mike Joyce. I like this particular answer of his so much because I’m so tired of the same old tired advice you hear/read from writers: “write every day.” Why? You can write crap all day long but if it’s crap and you’re just filling pages why waste your time and energy? Writing when you’re not inspired is excruciating. Writing when you’re inspired is a joy or a sorrow or a catharsis. Go out into the world and experience, live your life, soak it all in. Inspiration will follow when … Continue reading Writing For Writing’s Sake

Literary Orphans: The Lennon Issue

This is a phenomenal journal and I’m so excited to be included in it. Mike Joyce & Co. put together a visually beautiful and stimulating journal with each issue that other journals would do well to emulate. It’s evident from its high art style to the diverse contributors to the personal Editors Note that this is a labor of love – everything about it is meant to please the eyes of the reader and it does. Newsy News

Earlier today I was shaking my head over the fact that it’s already February. January flew by even though I feel like I spent almost all of it indoors because of the freezing weather we’ve been having here where we are not used to waking up to frozen fountains and freeze burned tropical plants. My backyard looks like it was napalmed and I’m trying to get my attitude set for a major clean-up come March. I figure I have March and most of April to chop down the dead banana trees and gingers and rake up beaucoup bamboo leaves and … Continue reading Newsy News
