Morning Meditation 12/15/14: Chunks of Heaven

This morning when I checked my email I had two poems about heaven there. I subscribe to a few poet’s blogs, to Poets.org’s Poem a Day, and to Rattle’s Daily Poem. I thought, out of all the sites I read and all the poet’s that write poems, it was interesting that two poems were about heaven on the same day. (Here and here.)  I’m not sure what heaven is, I’m not sure if it’s a real place or just something the faithful want to believe in and aspire to in order to  make their lives more bearable and purposeful. I … Continue reading Morning Meditation 12/15/14: Chunks of Heaven

“Houdini” is live!

I am crazy-happy to be a part of Literary Orphans new issue, “Houdini”. The Editor, Mike Joyce, and his staff put out a unique zine full of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, art, and interviews. It’s obvious by the visual beauty of the zine and the top notch talent that they work very hard to give their readers a stimulating and exceptional reading/viewing experience. Each issue has a theme and each contributor’s work is complimented by original artwork which, in my opinion, brings an added dimension to the words on the page. This is my second time to be a part of … Continue reading “Houdini” is live!

Renovations

In a few days I’ll be closing this blog to make some changes. Every so often I get a bug up my butt and feel like shaking things up on the old blog, so there ya go. Some things I’m considering doing are: Changing the name from Zouxzoux to my name, Charlotte Hamrick. Making the first page static and having it be an “About” page. Making a page for photography. Hiding all the old poetry and only showing published work. Possibly keeping a page for miscellaneous blogging. I haven’t made up my mind on this yet. What do you think? … Continue reading Renovations

Blue Fifth Review

I’m very happy to have my poem, “Opal”, in the newest issue of Blue Fifth Review: Blue Five Notebook. This poem is about a car wreck I was in with four other girls, out joy-riding unbeknownst to our parents, when I was about 16. We rolled into a creek, ended upside down and were very lucky to walk away. Big thanks to editors Sam Rasnake and Michelle Elvy. Lots of good writing over there – go read it! The Inspiring and the Inspired

Recently a sister blogger nominated me for a Very Inspiring Blogger Award. It’s been a long time since someone did that and it came at a time when I needed it, too. I needed it because, let’s face it, it’s nice to hear from someone who reads your blog and thinks enough of your writing to take it a step further to let you know, especially when you’re not feeling very inspired. MarinaSofia blogs at Finding Time To Write and I’ve been reading her blog for about a year where she posts her original poetry, book reviews, and generally things … Continue reading The Inspiring and the Inspired

Camroc Press Review: Checked off the bucket list

Back in January the editor of Camroc Press Review, Barry Basden, contacted me about publishing a little micro-fiction story I’d posted on my Fictionaut page. I was thrilled since CPR is one of a handful of online journals that I read regularly and one I had on my bucket list of journals I want to be published in. I knew the story would be published in July and back in January it seemed like a long, long time to July but it’s here now! You can read my little story, “Something About S.W.”, here. While you’re there be sure to … Continue reading Camroc Press Review: Checked off the bucket list

Glass Woman Prize: Supporting Women’s Writing

Well, National Poetry Month is over and I’m pleased with myself for writing as much poetry as I did. I posted new poems 22 out of 30 days which is the best I’ve done for NaPoWriMo, ever. Last year I didn’t even attempt it so I feel good about this year’s effort. Not that I think all the poems were good ones, but the exercise made me stretch, made me write when I didn’t feel inspired on my own, made me think hard. I had to look for something to inspire, something I don’t do on a regular basis. The … Continue reading Glass Woman Prize: Supporting Women’s Writing

Estuary

Desire flows, a natural watercourse moving towards an ocean, a lake, a sea of felicity. Its channels erode wider rather than deeper, becoming more expansive with time, flowing more freely more languidly more mindfully. Aqueous immersion. ___________________ Written from prompt for day 12, NaPoWriMo.net I replaced the word “river” with “desire”, although there isn’t much left of googled sentences contaning the word “river” in this.   Continue reading Estuary
